The Human Behind the Leader™ is a podcast and media project exploring the personal and emotional realities of leadership—the parts that are often carried quietly, managed privately, and discussed… almost never.

Leadership is usually framed around performance, outcomes, and strategy. This work makes space for what lives underneath those expectations: responsibility, care, fatigue, doubt, resilience, meaning, and the very human moments that don’t fit neatly into a slide deck. Through conversation, reflection, and applied insight, the project offers perspective grounded in real leadership experience—with a healthy respect for nuance, context, and the fact that there is no single “right” way to lead.

Created by Amanda Keehn, founder of Keehn Consulting & Media LLC, The Human Behind the Leader™ draws from years of leading teams in complex, people-centered environments. The work is shaped by lived experience, ongoing research, and continued coursework across leadership, organizational psychology, and trauma-aware practices. These inputs help inform the questions asked, the conversations held, and the frameworks explored—without assuming one universal experience or outcome.

This project also acknowledges that “self-care” is often misunderstood, oversimplified, or marketed as a cure-all—especially for people in positions of responsibility who don’t have the luxury of stepping away from impact. Rather than promoting quick fixes or surface-level wellness trends, The Human Behind the Leader™ explores how leaders think about capacity, limits, presence, and sustainability in realistic, ethical ways—without pretending leadership can be done perfectly or without cost.

It offers educational content, thoughtful commentary, and experience-based insight designed to support reflection, awareness, and more intentional leadership—while keeping both feet firmly in reality.
